Thurmond

Thurmond is a three-year-old gelding sired by Nathaniel, who has produced 20 Group winners including the Derby winner Desert Crown and the 11-time Group 1 winner Enable. He is out of the Group 1 Nassau Stakes winning mare Winsili. 

Thurmond was trained in Ireland by Dermot Weld, where he had one start in a competitive Maiden at Dundalk in January and placed an eye-catching third. The form of the race is impressive, with the winner, Neski Sherelski, going on to finish a very close second in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. The horse that finished in second place, Cow Chico, went on to claim victory in his next start at Dundalk by an impressive 3 1/4 lengths.

Timeform noted after Ziryab's debut that he “showed plenty to work on; prominent, led early in straight, headed approaching final 1f, kept on, pulled clear of remainder; entitled to progress.” 

Thurmond is currently in quarantine in Australia where he will be trained by Ciaron Maher.
